VISUAL ARTS INSTRUCTIONS FOR GRADE LEVELS K-5
- Principles: The Applications or Practices in Creating
- Elements: The Knowledge of Design
MelissAcademia consist of a fundamental curriculum with creative, transformative learning lessons that can be innovated and molded annually based on students’ needs, the school’s functionality, and Melissa's own personal growth experience and knowledge. This core strategy consists of growing developmentally appropriate practices that clearly define goals for students; allows Melissa to thoughtfully prepare the learning environment; evaluate and assess students’ progress; effectively communicate with students and/or parents, staff, and administrator; and integrate basic general knowledge from the four “core” subjects – English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies – with character/moral education, and critical thinking skills to create transformative teaching and learning experiences! In addition, students will be able to build meaningful connections with major artists and artists’ work, present-day applications, and art history and culture; identify characteristics of visual elements and principles of design; engage in hands-on two-dimensional art-making processes: drawing, painting, and printmaking; applied safety knowledge and procedures when working with tools and materials; develop self-esteem/worth, autonomy, and a sense of belonging and connectedness through individualized to collaborative work, and one-on-one to small groups empathic or soft critiques; and intuitively express abstract thoughts and ideas and/or empirically analyze semi-complex concepts to convey or depict stories, emotions, ideas, trompe l’oeils (visual illusions), and/or aesthetic principles.
